I read the novel to a point which Jimmy met Crake at school, Jimmy didn't have a lot of friends at school, he couldn't do math well enough. Jimmy had lingustic skills instead of scientific skills. On the other hand Crake was gifted at doing math and science. At Jimmy;s time, mathmetic skills have a greater role than linguistic skills. People who can do math well earn more money, and others who can not do it do no earn as much as them do. Those math-gifted people were viewed as successful men and others were not as much. I realize this in our society too, especialy in the Asian community. Asians are well known as the gifted math students, most people in my math class are Chinese or Korean, the parents do not look at English, Socials and other subjects the same way as sciences and maths. This is a big problem, as i think every course has its importance, and should be viewed equally.
